Admission of a European Lawyer to the Bar

• Please contact the Hanseatic Bar Association Bremen with your application for admission as a European lawyer. You can find the relevant application forms either here and/or on the website of the Bremen Bar Association.
• These must be completed, signed and sent to the Bar Association together with the requested documents.
• If you have corresponding mailboxes, you can submit the application via the special electronic lawyer's mailbox or a citizen's mailbox connected to the EGVP infrastructure. You can also send the application by e-mail or by post.
• You can submit original documents in person or by mail. These will be returned after processing.

More information

The established European lawyer shall use the professional title which he/she is entitled to use in the home country according to the law applicable there. Whoever is entitled to use the professional title "Rechtsanwalt" thereafter shall additionally indicate the professional organization to which he belongs in the home country.

The established European lawyer shall be entitled to use the designation "member of the Bar" at the same time in professional dealings. The designation "European lawyer" may not be used as a professional title or in advertising.

  Curriculum vitae with photograph indicating the name at birth.

• Proof of nationality
  

  Proof of citizenship according to § 3 paragraph 2 sentence 1 Law on the Activities of European Lawyers in Germany (EuRAG)

• Certificate
  

  Certificate issued by the competent authority in the home country confirming membership of the profession of European lawyer, not older than 3 months and accompanied by a certified translation (Section 3 (2) sentence 2 EuRAG).

• Proof of professional liability insurance
  

  Proof of professional liability insurance either in accordance with § 51 BRAO via an insurance policy taken out in Germany or an equivalent insurance policy in the home country (§ 7 paragraph 1 EuRAG).

• If applicable: proof of the acquisition of academic degrees
  

  Certified copy of the doctoral degree certificate or other evidence of the acquisition of academic degrees.

• Extract from the Federal Central Register
  

  Will be obtained from the bar association.

Fees according to § 39 Law on the Activities of European Lawyers in Germany (EuRAG) and §192 Federal Lawyers' Act (BRAO) in conjunction with the Fee Statutes of the Hanseatic Bar Association Bremen apply. Please contact the responsible office.

The processing time depends on the completeness of the submitted documents.
