Apply for benefits under the Victims Compensation Act (OEG)

Would you like to apply for benefits under the Victims Compensation Act?

If you have been the victim of a deliberate, unlawful act of violence and have suffered physical or psychological damage as a result, you can receive the same benefits that the Pension Act provides for war victims and their surviving dependants (pensions and benefits for medical and sickness treatment).

Financial losses cannot be compensated under the Victims Compensation Act. Compensation for pain and suffering cannot be paid either.

Requirements

Anyone who has been the victim of an act of violence on a German ship or German aircraft in Germany or outside the Federal Republic of Germany and has suffered physical or psychological damage can receive benefits.

The law applies without restriction to persons who became victims of an act of violence after May 15, 1976 (date of entry into force of the law).

In addition, surviving dependants (widows, widowers, orphans, parents) are entitled to benefits if an act of violence leads directly or subsequently to the death of the victim.
