Apply for benefits within the framework of social compensation for participation in education

If you have a disability due to the consequences of an injury, are at risk of a significant disability or have other mental, psychological, physical or sensory impairments that significantly restrict your equal participation in society, you can receive benefits for participation in education.

Benefits for participation in education are intended to enable you to complete your first training or further education. From January 1, 2024, they will be provided regardless of income and assets if the need has arisen as a result of a harmful event.

Benefits for participation in education include, for example

• Assistance with school education, in particular as part of compulsory schooling and attendance at secondary schools, including preparation for this
• Assistance with school or university education or further training for a profession

Assistance with school or higher education can be provided again if this is necessary for disability-related reasons. It also includes objects and aids that are necessary for participation in education due to the health impairment. A prerequisite for the provision of aids is that the person entitled to benefits is able to use the aid.

Please note that your social compensation provider will decide whether and to what extent you receive support.

Requirements

• You have suffered a health impairment in Germany or, under certain conditions, abroad (§ 15 SGB XIV) due to a damaging event.
• The health impairment has resulted in physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments that restrict your equal participation in society.
