Apply for funding for the replacement of electric heating systems

Are you planning to replace electric space heating with central building heating with integrated or coupled water heating? If so, you can apply for a grant from the state of Bremen under certain conditions.

To protect the climate and because of the finite nature of fossil fuels, the state of Bremen is promoting the replacement of electric space heaters in existing residential buildings if the existing electric water heating system is replaced at the same time. The aim of the subsidy is to keep the use of non-renewable primary energy as low as possible. The subsidy is provided as project funding in the form of a grant.

Requirements

Funding is provided for the replacement of electric space heating systems with central building heating systems if

  • the existing electric water heating system is replaced at the same time and is integrated into or coupled with the central building heating system
  • the building in which the project is implemented is located in the state of Bremen and has no more than 12 residential units
  • the central heating system is operated with renewable energies, local or district heating on the basis of combined heat and power or waste heat utilization or with gas
  • a waste disposal certificate from an approved waste disposal company is submitted for the proper disposal of night storage heaters, which contains the following information:

Waste designation
Waste code
Quantity of waste
Date of acceptance
Name, address and signature of waste producer, transporter and disposer.

Approved establishments can be found in the attached funding guideline "Replacement of electric heaters";

  • the project has not yet been started before receipt of the notice of approval. A project is considered to have started as soon as actions or measures have been taken that give rise to internal or external costs, with the exception of planning required for project preparation and description - obtaining cost estimates, for example, is not considered to be the start of the project.

Eligible to apply are land/building owners or other persons entitled in rem (for example, heritable building owners), tenants and leaseholders with the consent of the person entitled in rem, and companies that have contractually agreed to take over the supply of heat and/or hot water to a building. If a person can credibly demonstrate that he or she will belong to one of the groups mentioned here at the time the subsidies are disbursed, he or she is also eligible to apply.

In addition to these general requirements, certain technical requirements must be met for the project, which can be found in the attached funding guideline and the implementing provisions issued for this purpose.

What documents do I need?

  • completed application form
  • Offer of the installation company for the new heating system
  • Proof of disposal from an approved disposal company on the proper disposal of night storage heaters with the following information:
    • Waste designation
    • Waste code
    • Waste quantity
    • Date of acceptance
    • Name, address and signature of waste generator, transporter and waste disposer

    Important to know:

Disposal of night storage heaters may only take place after a notification of grant has been issued. The proof of disposal must be submitted together with the proof of use.
