Barbecue in public / barbecue on the balcony

The public order service patrols Bremen's green spaces and controls barbecues in designated areas and (illegal) waste disposal.

Requirements

Barbecue in public
Barbecuing is permitted in public green areas and on designated bathing beaches, unless the signs say otherwise. However, this only applies if an adequate barbecue is used and the barbecue is not set up under treetops.
The use of disposable barbecues should generally be avoided, as they damage the green areas. Barbecuing in the forest and in nature and landscape conservation areas is generally prohibited.
At Lake Werdersee, barbecues are only permitted at the permanently installed barbecue sites and on the barbecue meadow.
It goes without saying that the barbecue area must be cleaned up independently, including disposal of any remaining waste.
Public barbecue areas are e.g. at

  • Stadtwaldsee or Unisee
  • Lake Werdersee
  • Sodenmatt Lake
  • Weser embankment park Rablinghausen

Barbecue on the balcony
Barbecuing on the balcony, the terrace or in the garden is generally allowed.
This also applies to rented apartments, unless otherwise specified in the rental contract.
Even without a fixed barbecue ban in the rental contract, barbecues are forbidden if neighbours are bothered by the smoke produced. This applies to barbecues on the balcony and terrace as well as in the garden. Impairments caused by smoke or fumes are an administrative offence and will be punished with fines.
