Barbecue in public / barbecue on the balcony

The public order service patrols Bremen's green spaces and monitors barbecuing in designated areas as well as (illegal) littering.

Requirements

Barbecuing in Public
Barbecuing is permitted in public green spaces and at designated swimming beaches, unless signage indicates otherwise. However, this applies only if an appropriate barbecue grill is used and the grill is not set up under tree canopies.
The use of disposable grills should generally be avoided, as they damage green spaces. Barbecuing is strictly prohibited in forests and in nature and landscape conservation areas.
At Werdersee, barbecuing is permitted only at the permanently installed barbecue areas and on the barbecue lawn.
It goes without saying that you must clean up the barbecue area yourself, including disposing of any remaining trash.
Public barbecue areas are located, for example, at

• Stadtwaldsee or Unisee
• Werdersee
• Sodenmattsee
• Weseruferpark Rablinghausen

Barbecuing on the Balcony
Barbecuing on the balcony, terrace, or in the garden is generally permitted.
This also applies to rental apartments, unless otherwise specified in the lease agreement.
Even if there is no explicit ban on barbecuing in the lease agreement, barbecuing is prohibited if the smoke causes a nuisance to neighbors. This applies to barbecuing on balconies and terraces as well as in the garden. Nuisances caused by smoke constitute an administrative offense and are punishable by fines.
