Border inspection post: import of food, feed and products of animal origin
The border inspection posts in Bremerhaven, Bremen and Cuxhaven are responsible for the import control of food and feed of animal and non-animal origin from third countries (countries outside the European Union).
After successful import control, the consignments can be cleared through customs and are then freely tradable in the EU. They are not subject to any further controls.
The work of the border inspection post serves to
Protect EU states from the introduction of animal diseases from abroad
Protect consumers from health hazards that may emanate from food
Protect humans and animals from feed that is hazardous to health
