education and participation package

Does your child want to play sports in a club or take part in a vacation camp? Does your child need learning support or financial help to finance the upcoming class trip?

If you personally are not in a position to make these things possible for your child, you can apply for benefits from the education and participation package.

The legal entitlement to benefits includes the following benefits in detail:

  • Sports, culture and leisure: To enable children to take part in sports, games and cultural activities, 15 euros per month are available per child for contributions, fees and, if necessary, equipment.
  • Lunch at daycare center and school. Participation in a child's lunch is free of charge.
  • School supplies: For school materials such as satchels, pens and exercise books, 130 euros are granted for the first half of the school year and 65 euros for the second half of the school year.
  • Learning support: If a child is not keeping up in class and is at risk of failing, they are entitled to appropriate learning support. The prerequisite is that the school confirms the need and that there are no comparable offers.
  • Day trips and school trips: The costs for day trips from daycare or school are covered. Excursions/class trips lasting several days are also paid for.
  • School transport: From 01.01.2022, children and young people up to the age of 18 can use local public transport within Bremen free of charge, so that no further school transport is provided. Pupils aged 18 and over will have their travel costs to school covered, provided the school is a reasonable distance from their place of residence and the costs are not covered elsewhere. Applications are available from the schools.
