Foundation for Recognition and Assistance

On 01.01.2017 the Foundation Anerkennung und Hilfe (Recognition and Assistance) was established by the Federal Government, the Länder and the churches. It is aimed at people who experienced suffering and injustice as children and young people in the period from 23 May 1949 to 31 December 1975 in the Federal Republic of Germany and from 7 October 1949 to 2 October 1990 in the GDR in in-patient facilities for the disabled or in psychiatry. The aim of the foundation is to acknowledge the suffering and injustice suffered by the persons concerned and to support them in coping with or alleviating the consequences of their suffering and injustice which still exist today. To carry out this task, a contact and advice centre has been set up at the Office for Care and Integration Bremen.

Recognition and support services can be provided to affected persons in the form of a one-off personal lump-sum payment and pension replacement.

Requirements

The benefits of the foundation can be applied for by anyone who

  • today lives in Bremen or Bremerhaven
  • today still has a consequence of the suffering and injustice experienced during the accommodation.
