Quality control of bathing waters in Bremen

Procedure

Legal bases

More information

Health hazards in bathing waters can be caused, for example, by blue-green algae (cyanobacteria), intestinal bacteria (intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli) or cercariae. In case of strong occurrences, the Senate Department for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing, in coordination with the Health Department, puts up warning signs at the affected water bodies or, if necessary, closes them completely. In addition, the attached publications "Blue-green algae in Bremen bathing lakes" and "Bathing dermatitis caused by cercariae" provide comprehensive information about the respective occurrences and protection against hazards.
