Procedure
Upon application, the initial registration of a vehicle subject to registration may also take place for the duration of exclusively the day on which the initial registration becomes effective (day registration). In the case of a day registration, no stamping of the license plates is required.
With the expiry of the day of the initial registration, the vehicle is deemed to be out of service without the need for a separate application in accordance with Section 16 (1) FZV. The competent registration authority shall note the date of initial registration and the date of decommissioning in the Part I registration certificate. In addition, the security code in accordance with Section 13 (1) sentence 2 FZV is uncovered and a provisional registration certificate is issued. A vehicle with a daytime registration may be put into operation on public roads with the prescribed license plates without stamp stickers or sticker holders for the duration of the registration. When placing the vehicle in service on public roads, the person driving the vehicle shall display the temporary registration certificate in the vehicle so that it is clearly legible from the outside until the end of the day of the initial registration.
- The application may also be submitted by a representative (e.g. car dealer) with a written power of attorney.
- If a preferred license plate is desired, the reservation can be made in person, in writing or by telephone, and as an online service via the Internet, even before the day of registration.
- The insurance company is automatically informed by the registration authority about the allocation of the license plate.
