You have entered Germany with a Schengen visa for visiting or business purposes ("C visa") and need an extension of the visa? 

For this purpose you must observe the following points:

A visa may be extended if the existence of force majeure, humanitarian reasons or serious personal reasons is proven and these prevent the timely departure. In such cases, the extended visa continues to be valid for the entire Schengen area. 

If there are other important personal concerns which do not necessarily prevent a timely departure, the visa can be extended as a so-called national visa. This visa is then only valid for Germany.

								    

									    Requirements
  • Valid travel document with a validity of at least 3 months after the intended departure.
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Secured livelihood for the duration of the intended stay
  • Financing the departure
  • Proof of the reason given
								    
What documents do I need?
    
    
  • Travel document        
    Valid travel document, which is still valid 3 months after the planned departure.

  • Health Insurance        
    proof of health insurance for the intended duration of the stay

    • 
    
  • Proof of livelihood        
    Proof of securing livelihood for the intended duration of the stay. 
    
E.g. declaration of commitment by a person living in the Federal territory.

  • Proof of financing of the departure        
    E.g. flight ticket

    • 
    
  • Other evidence        
    Other evidence to support the reasons given. 
    
E.g. medical certificates, certificates for flight cancellations.
