Apply for permission to climb children's balloons near airfields

If you want to launch children's balloons within 1.5 km of an airfield in the state of Bremen (Bremen and Bremerhaven), you need a permit from the aviation authority.

The Bremen Aviation Authority is the competent authority for issuing permits to climb children's balloons, provided that the place of ascent is in the State of Bremen (Bremen and Bremerhaven) and there is an airfield within a radius of 1.5km.

Airfields in the state of Bremen are considered to be:

  • Bremen commercial airport
  • Helicopter special landing field Klinikum Bremen-Mitte,
  • Helicopter special landing field Klinikum Bremen Links der Weser,
  • Helicopter special landing pad Klinikum Bremen-Nord,
  • Special helipad at Bremerhaven Reinkenheide Hospital

If you want to launch children's balloons within the so-called control zone around Bremen Airport, you also need an air traffic control clearance from Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS), even if you are outside the 1.5 km to an airfield. The control zone covers almost the entire inner city area of Bremen. You can find more information about this on the DFS website.

Also, if you want to launch more than 500 balloons at any location, you need an air traffic control clearance from Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS). You can also find more information on this on the DFS website.

If the planned ascent site is in Lower Saxony, you must contact the Lower Saxony Aviation Authority in Oldenburg to apply for a permit. This also applies if airfields are involved that are located in Bremen, but the ascent site is in Lower Saxony.

Attention: The ascent of sky lanterns is generally prohibited (§2 of the Police Regulation on Public Safety).

Requirements

The site of ascent is within 1.5 kilometers of airfields.

  • They will allow a maximum of 500 children's balloons to go up.
