The responsibilities of the Department for Labour are wide-ranging. They extend from issues relating to the structure of the labour market and labour market policy to employment law. Furthermore, the European Social Fund in the State of Bremen is managed and implemented within the Department for Labour. At local authority level, the Department for Labour (lead department), the Department for Social Affairs and the Department for Finance, together with the Employment Agency, are the governing bodies of the Bremen Job Centre.
