BREMEN FEDERAL POLICE HEADQUARTERS

From its headquarters at Willy-Brandt-Platz, the Bremen Federal Police Inspectorate, with a total of 400 staff and six subordinate police stations, coordinates border and aviation security policing duties at Bremen Airport, as well as maritime border policing duties in Bremen, Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven. 

In addition, the police stations at Bremen Central Station, Lüneburg, Uelzen, Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven are responsible for security at railway facilities. 

The area of responsibility extends from the North Sea coast between the Weser and Elbe rivers to the districts of Celle and Dannenberg in the federal states of Lower Saxony and Bremen. With a total of 1,000 kilometres of railway line and 140 stations in the districts and towns

Cuxhaven, Rotenburg (Wümme), Verden, Diepholz, Lüneburg, Uelzen, Osterholz, Lüchow-Dannenberg, Harburg, Soltau-Fallingbostel, Celle, Bremen and Bremerhaven, as well as Bremen Central Station, which handles around 140,000 passengers daily, the unit tackles both the challenges of an urban conurbation and those of a rural area – including Europe’s largest marshalling yard in Maschen.

Another key area of focus is the maritime border police checks along the five-kilometre-long river quay in Bremerhaven. Here, strict logistical time slots must be adhered to, as is also the case at airports.

In addition, numerous tourists disembarking from international cruise ships in Bremen, Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven, as well as tourists and business travellers at 19 general aviation aerodromes, undergo border police checks.
