Apply for admission to the legal preparatory service for persons from the EU

Procedure

  • You must apply for the equivalency examination in writing to a judicial examination office.
  • You can submit the application in writing without any formalities. Application forms are not available.
  • Please enclose a certified copy or the original of your degree certificate and other certificates of achievement with your application.
  • After receipt of the application, the equivalence assessment will take place.
  • If your degree is found to be fully equivalent, you will be notified accordingly.
  • With this decision, you can apply for employment in the legal preparatory service.
  • The application procedure then follows the application procedure for applicants who have obtained their university degree in Germany.
  • If equivalence is not determined or is only partially determined, you will also receive a notification. In order to be admitted to the legal preparatory service in this case, you must take an aptitude test. You must apply for the aptitude test in writing.
  • After passing the aptitude test, you can apply for admission to the legal preparatory service. The application procedure then follows the application procedure for applicants who have obtained their university degree in Germany.
  • The aptitude test basically consists of 6 supervisory papers (although these may be partially waived due to a determined partial equivalence). The qualifying examination is passed if at least 3 supervisory papers, of which at least one is from civil law, are passed.
