Apply for state recognition as an educator

Procedure

For persons who have previously attended a public vocational school (Inge-Katz-Schule, Schulzentrum Blumenthal, BS Sophie-Scholl Bremerhaven) in the state of Bremen, the public vocational school remains the responsible body for the application.

In the case of persons who have attended a private vocational school (Paritätisches Bildungswerk Bremen, ibs Bremen) or have passed the state examination as a non-student, the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31 is responsible for the application.

Professional internship as a "recognition year"

If you would like to complete the professional internship (so-called "recognition year"), please send your notification of the professional internship to the responsible accompanying office at least 2 months before the start. You will then receive unsolicited notification of the dates of your practical training.

After submitting an interim assessment to the responsible supervising body halfway through the year of recognition, in which you are expected to pass the internship, you will then receive the application for admission to the colloquium.

If you have successfully completed the work placement and passed the colloquium, you will receive the certificate of state recognition from the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31.

Career entry year

If you would like to complete the career entry year, please send your registration for the career entry year to the responsible office 2 months before the start. You will then receive unsolicited notification of the dates of your practical courses.

After 9 months, an application for crediting professional activities to the professional internship in accordance with § 8 (2) 3 of the regulations for state recognition of educators in the state of Bremen dated January 16, 2023 (AO) with a differentiated assessment, in which a probable passing of the career entry year is predicted, must be submitted to the responsible accompanying office.

You will then receive the application for admission to the colloquium. If you have successfully completed the career entry year and passed the colloquium, you will receive the certificate of state recognition from the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31.

Having professional activity credited

If you would like to have your professional activity credited towards your internship, please contact the responsible office. You will then receive the relevant application forms and the further procedure will be discussed with you individually.

Once you have received notification that your professional activity has been credited towards the internship, you will then receive the application for admission to the colloquium.

If your professional activity is credited to the internship and you have passed the colloquium, you will receive state recognition from the Senatorial Authority for Children and Education - Department 31.

Working as a pedagogical specialist

You may be able to work as a so-called educational specialist without being recognized as an educator. You can then work in a day care center, for example. The responsible office or your employer will inform you about this possibility.
