erect an obstruction to aviation

You want to erect cranes, mobile cranes, masts or other trades within the construction protection area of Bremen Airport?

The aviation authority is the body responsible for approving or authorizing the construction of an aviation obstacle in the construction protection area of Bremen Airport.

Approval is required for all trades that exceed the heights subject to submission in the construction protection area so that air traffic is not endangered by the construction.

If you erect plant, trees or equipment or create ground depressions, the safety of air traffic may be endangered. Therefore, under certain conditions, you need a permit from the responsible aviation authority. In the case of structural installations requiring a permit, this approval is granted as part of the building permit. For the erection of aeronautical obstructions (e.g. structures, equipment, construction cranes, also plantings [e.g. trees]) or the making of ground depressions for which you do not require a building permit, you submit the application directly to the responsible aviation authority.

The height limits for the permit requirement result from the distance of the object to Bremen Airport and the height of the object in meters above ground and in meters above sea level. In the narrower construction protection area of Bremen Airport (1.5 km radius around the airfield reference point), all installations, excavations, trees and equipment are subject to approval regardless of their height.

Exceptions apply in the eastern area of the airport city and in the area of the Schwäbisch Hall settlement. In some cases, approval is only required for heights of 18.2 m above sea level.

Within a radius of 1.5 km to 4 km around the airport reference point, aviation obstructions are subject to approval from a height of 28.2 m NHN.

An exception applies in parts of the new town and the old town. In some parts, approval is only required for heights of 48.2 m above sea level.

Within a radius of 4 km to 6 km, the height requiring approval increases from 48.2 m NHN (4 km radius) to 103.2 m NHN (6 km radius).

In the approach sectors, which extend east of the airport to Oyten and west to Ganderkesee, the height requiring approval increases from 3.2 m NHN (closest point to the airport) to up to 103.2 m NHN (10 km to 15 km from the airport).

Outside the construction protection area of Bremen Airport on Bremen territory, aeronautical obstructions with a height of 100 m above ground are subject to approval.

Information on the approval requirements for your project in Bremen, Bremerhaven and parts of Lower Saxony, which are located in the construction protection area of Bremen Airport, can be obtained from the Bremen Aviation Authority.
