If you are an adult and would like to obtain the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) and have at least 24 months of professional experience or substitute periods, you can apply to a Second Chance School. Find out more here.
Basic information
The Abitur at the Abendgymnasium is part of the education offered by the adult school. The evening grammar school is a grammar school course that is geared towards the needs of working adults. The evening grammar school course is divided into an initial phase, a 1-year introductory phase and a 2-year qualification phase, depending on previous schooling.
Teaching is based on the concept of "blended e-learning", i.e. it comprises face-to-face and distance learning phases. Classroom teaching usually takes place at our school three evenings a week. Students who still have to take the 2nd foreign language must come on 4 evenings. The distance tasks, which are made available to you via a learning platform, you work on at home according to your own time constraints.
Depending on your school requirements, the course lasts 3.5 or 2 years until you obtain the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur).
Attending the Abendgymnasium is free of charge, and you can apply for parent-independent BaFöG for the last 3 semesters of the course.
Are you over 18 years old?
Have you been employed for at least 24 months (even marginally) or can you provide evidence of substitute periods? Do you have a secondary school leaving certificate (MSA) or the extended vocational training entrance qualification (ErwBBR)?
If you then successfully pass the entrance examination in German, English and mathematics, you can attend our evening grammar school.
