School enrollment after immigration from abroad without sufficient knowledge of German

Procedure

Assignment to a preliminary course or a welcome school is made promptly by the responsible office of the senatorial authority. The school then contacts the parents or guardians.
Young people who have reached the age of 16 at the beginning of the school year are assigned to the language classes of vocational education. Once their registration details have been received, they are invited to a language test. Here, their language and educational level is assessed and they are then assigned to an appropriate class at a vocational school.
