Apply for an Exemption from Daycare Costs

• Parent fees are calculated by two different agencies:
  
  • If your child is cared for at a daycare center operated by “KiTa Bremen” or by independent providers (such as churches), the “Kita-Beitragsdienst” is responsible for you.
  • If your child is cared for at a family daycare home, a parents’ association, or a privately operated facility, the “Parent Fee Office” is responsible.
• Please contact the appropriate agency.
• Submit the application along with the required documents.
• Once the calculation is complete, you will receive the new notice.

• Proof of Income
  

  All members of the household who are part of the income-sharing unit (usually the parents).

• If applicable: Proof of public benefits
• If applicable: Bremen Pass

What deadlines must be paid attention to?

Responsibility of the “Daycare Fee Service”: There are no deadlines.

Responsibility of the “Parent Fee Portal”: Subsidies for the current kindergarten year can be applied for retroactively until the end of the kindergarten year (July 31). (Effective August 2026)

How long does it take to process

The processing time depends largely on whether all the required documents have been submitted.
