Register your residence as a secondary residence

You must register your secondary residence locally at a BürgerServiceCenter.

It is not possible to register your secondary residence online.

On site at the BürgerServiceCenter

You can make an appointment at one of the BürgerServiceCenters or come without an appointment during the opening hours of the open consultation hours.

In person for yourself:

• You appear in person.
• Bring all the necessary documents with you.
• The registration form will be filled out for you on site. You must sign it.
• Once the documents have been checked, you will receive confirmation of registration.

In person for the family:

• You appear in person.
• An adult family member can register the whole family for joint residence.
  
  • Parents require written authorization from their adult children, the signed registration form and the child's original ID.
• Bring all the required documents with you.
• The registration form will be filled out for you on site. You must sign it.
• Once the documents have been checked, you will receive confirmation of registration.

By proxy:

• You can also be represented by another person. An informal power of attorney is required for this. Life partners also require a power of attorney.
• Guardians require a power of attorney or a guardian's identity card. The guardian's identity card must authorize registration or re-registration.
• Bring all the necessary documents with you. You must also bring the power of attorney, the signed registration form and the original identity card of the person who is to be re-registered.
• Once the documents have been checked, you will receive confirmation of registration immediately.

More information

• If you are under the age of 16, your new secondary residence must be registered by the person whose home you are moving into. From the age of 16, the signature of a parent or guardian is not required.
• If you are over 18 years of age and a guardian or caretaker has been appointed for you who can determine your residence, your new secondary residence must be registered by your guardian or caretaker.

  • and, if applicable, your electronic residence permit (eAT) or your eID card - if you have one.

  IMPORTANT:
  Your eAT or eID card are not valid identification documents without the corresponding passport.

• When moving into a rental property:
  
  • Confirmation of residence.
• When purchasing residential property:
  
  • Landlord's confirmation as declaration of ownership.
• Form "Declaration on the determination of the main residence"
• For assisted persons:
  
  • Written power of attorney or guardian's pass.
• If represented by another person:
  
  • Written power of attorney and original identification documents of the person to be registered.
• For spouses, life partners and family members with the same immigration data:
  
  • Date of moving in and previous and current homes.
• The competent authority may request the submission of further documents to verify the information provided
  

  For example: Marriage certificate, birth certificate.

What deadlines must be paid attention to?

2 weeks after moving into the new home.
If no appointment is available within the 2 weeks, it is sufficient to make an appointment at one of our BürgerServiceCenters in good time.

Processing takes place immediately during your appointment.
