Marriages: 

1. The number of guests permitted at civil weddings depends on local circumstances – in particular, the size of the room.
2. At civil weddings held in the wedding rooms of the Bremen-Mitte Registry Office, a maximum of 11 people may attend in addition to the registrar and the bride and groom. Seating is provided accordingly. The number of permitted guests includes witnesses, children, photographers, interpreters, etc. They cannot therefore attend as additional guests. Babies and young children up to the age of 3 are not counted.
3. At outdoor wedding venues, the permitted number of guests depends on the size of the venue. Further information on this can be obtained from the respective outdoor wedding venues.

Births:

1. In the case of a birth in a hospital or birthing centre, the facility will register the birth with the relevant registry office. Hospitals and birthing centres provide birth envelopes for mothers or parents to use to forward personal documents and name declarations to the relevant registry office. The registry office will then contact the mothers/parents in writing to request any further documents that may be required. It is not necessary to visit the office in person. Should a personal appointment at the registry office be necessary in individual cases, the registry office will arrange a specific appointment. 
2. Home births must be registered in person at the registry office.
3. Acknowledgements of paternity can be made at any youth welfare office, notary’s office or registry office in Germany, regardless of place of residence. Declarations of custody cannot be made at registry offices. 

Certificate requests:

1. Requests for certificates from registry offices can be made in writing by email to the Bremen-Mitte Registry Office:
   urkunden@inneres.bremen.de (DE-Mail: EPS.050-SM@bremen.de-mail.de),
   or by post or by placing the request in the office’s letterbox.
2. Sending documents via DE-Mail requires that you have your own DE-Mail address and are therefore authenticated within the DE-Mail network. An encrypted transmission channel is only guaranteed within the DE-Mail network.
3. It is not possible to send messages to the DE-Mail addresses of the registry offices from a standard email account. 
4. A form for requesting certificates (PDF) is available on the registry offices’ website under ‘Services’.

Leaving the church:

1. Direct and free withdrawal from the Protestant or Catholic Church can only be carried out through the church itself. 
2. At the registry offices, you can complete a declaration of withdrawal and have your signature certified by the registry office for a fee of €5.50. This declaration, which can also be completed at a notary’s office, must then be forwarded to the relevant church by yourself for the withdrawal to take effect. The certificate of withdrawal will then be issued by the church.
