Traffic update

Due to the construction work on Steubenstraße and the associated complete closure of the first railway underpass – including for pedestrians and cyclists – the Stresemannstraße Administrative Centre is not expected to be directly accessible from the Julius-Brecht-Allee stop (Line 1) until summer 2028. However, access is possible via Gartenstadt Vahr, Insterburger Str.

At the Citizens’ Office, customer enquiries can only be dealt with by prior appointment. Appointments can be made online via https://www.service.bremen.de or via the Bremen Citizens’ Helpline on 115 or 0421 361 0. Please make use of the online appointment service where possible.

From 2 July 2026, applications for red permanent number plates will only be processed by appointment. The only exception is for holders who submit their documents for red permanent number plates via commercial vehicle registration services; for them, nothing will change. Appointments can be made on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 08.00 and 11.30 (Tuesdays) or 08.00 and 11.00 (Thursdays). 
Provided all the necessary documents are submitted, applications are usually processed during the appointment. This means there is no need to return to collect them separately. The essential documents include, in particular, the vehicle registration document, the logbook and a completed cover sheet stating the nature of your enquiry. Depending on the nature of your enquiry, you may also need to bring the number plates. Please refer to our guidance in the service description under ‘Forms’ or ‘Further Information’. New applications for red permanent number plates are
excluded from immediate processing. In such cases, a check of personal reliability in accordance with commercial law is required. Processing of these applications therefore generally takes around 6 to 8 weeks.
