If you need information about specific companies, you can search for them in the Joint Register Portal of the German States or in the Business Register itself and view the entries and submitted documents.
The commercial register is a public register that keeps records of registered merchants and companies in the district of the competent registry court and provides information on the documents filed there.

The stock corporation (AG) only becomes a legal entity when it is entered in the commercial register. You can find more information here.
The formation of a European Company (Societas Europaea, or SE for short) becomes effective upon entry in the commercial register. In addition, the entry is published in the Official Journal of the European Union for information purposes.
The formation of a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG) becomes effective upon entry in the commercial register. In addition, the entry is published in the Official Journal of the European Union for information purposes.
If you set up a limited liability company (GmbH), you are obliged to register it in the commercial register. The GmbH only comes into existence and has full legal capacity once it has been registered.
Legal entities whose entry in the commercial register is to be made with regard to the object or the type and scope of their business operations must be applied for registration by all members of the Management Board. Further information can be found here.
The KG only comes into existence and has full legal capacity when it is entered in the commercial register. You can find more information here.
The partnership limited by shares (KGaA) only becomes a legal entity when it is entered in the commercial register. As the KGaA is a corporation, it is entered in section B of the commercial register.
Commercial law stipulates that a general partnership (OHG) must be entered in the commercial register. The registration must be made by all partners at the competent registry court. You can find more information here.
